Purported Pictures of iPad 3′s Rear Casing Emerge
The rear casing of what could be the iPad 3, compared to an iPad 2. Image: RepairLabs Blog If history is any indicator, the launch of Apple’s next iPad is just around the corner. But if the leaked pics circulating on the interwebs on Wednesday are to be believed, we could be getting a look at Apple’s next tablet weeks before its official debut. The leaked photos, first discovered by hardware repair site RepairLabs, compares the rear casing of the iPad 2 with that of a purported upcoming iPad 3 casing. Based on discrepancies between the two, it appears as if the new iPad will feature a larger battery, a different camera, a differently shaped logic board, and a different type of LCD display. We know, we know — Apple rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. However, these spec changes seem to jive with other purported hardware upgrades that have been floating around the web as of late. Last week, for instance, BGR unearthed an image that could be an iPad 3 display. If this image has any merit, it could mean an upgrade for some of the tablet’s key internal components, like an A6 processor, for instance. Among other widely speculated beliefs, the display of the iPad 3 is expected to be twice the pixel count of the current iPad at 2048 x 1536 (that’s Retina Display level). The A6 processor is also anticipated to be quad-core, giving the chip a serious boost in processing power. Some believe the iPad 3 will be a millimeter or two thicker than its predecessor, but the latest leaked photo offers no solid evidence either way. But over all, we’d expect a new iPad not to look drastically different than any of its predecessors. In other words — if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
